Beauty in Imperfections

Home. This is where it all begins. It doesn’t matter if you own a house, rent a house or even rent a room, we try our very best to make it homey. After each long day, closing the door from inside and seeing our family touching and tinkering those things that are familiar and fond, is the moment that we longed for. It stamps safe, sound and secure in our hearts.

Some find it in the beginning of a weekend. A cheat day. A little bit longer time in bed (read : cozy blanket with bubble tea), sitting on the library’s window bench (read : eyes browsing through Pinterest, Instagram or Shopee) or plopping onto long couch (read : head on feather-inserted décor pillows, Cheezels in hand). Homey.

While you are letting off steams, your ever-scanning eyes spotted something that must not be there. Or how on earth it gets there. Smudges of chocolate on the off-white cozy blanket, dark watercolor drops on the library’s white-oak wood floor, and that water spots on your favorite beige long couch. And the scanning doesn’t stop. Suddenly you can see everything imperfect.

Froot Loop Cake for Papa

But slowly the beautiful childhood memories that you try to create for your children, some two or three days ago, seeps in. Ah, that Nutella-smeared cake ( read : 3 slices of bread ) with colorful Froot Loops as toppings your daughters served to you under the blanket fort. That cat-painting competition you held in the library where your children bragged to each other. And that beautiful memories of the ever-strong relationships with your siblings come knocking. Of course, you remember your brother trying to clean the ice-cream dropping when his son sat on your couch, smiling innocently. You are the one preparing those after all.

Oh well, just enjoy the homey feeling. And the beauty in imperfections.
